My first Visit To Dos Ojos Cenote
This was over 18 years ago!
So how did I first find Dos Ojos Cenote?My father had recently moved to Cancun and at the time I was living in Miami FL. As you can imagine I came to visit often and also explore the area with him.
Honestly I can’t remember if they were offering guide tours at that time or not, but I don’t recall seeing any. My father and I had pretty much the whole place to ourselves. He wasn’t feeling too well so I did all the exploring myself.
I managed to find and get into the bat cave myself without knowing it was even there. I remember first how impressed I was with the cave itself, and then proud that I managed to find something like that by myself.
My Thoughts Today
I consider Dos Ojos cenotes to be the best snorkeling cenote I know of especially if you get there after 3pm when sun is hitting the water.
At one point I could take groups into the water myself and give them the full tour including the bat cave. However they decided to create more work for their local guides and they no longer allowed me to take the groups into the water myself. Because of that I don’t feel I can add much of a value if I personally take a group there.
Overall at 700 pesos for the guided tour they do offer a good value. Dos Ojos Cenote is amazing, and the stalactite maze into the bat cave is great. You get to visit two pools, and you can actually see the cave that connects both of them underwater.

How to Get To Dos Ojos Cenote
Perhaps a bit biased, but best way to get there is with one of my custom private tours. We offer pickups out of Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
The actual Ticket booth to Dos Ojos park is a few meters from the main road. However Dos Ojos cenote is actually a bit less than 2 miles into the jungle.
If walking 2 miles there and 2 miles back is not a problem, then a colectivo van would work. Colectivos will pull over anywhere on the main highway.
You could also get there via a taxi. If you used a taxi you might consider paying for him to wait then drive you back. That said I am confident that for a few dollars more my custom private tours would make more sense. You would have van and driver at your disposal for 12 hours.
Last way I can think of getting to Dos Ojos would be with a rental car. It is an easy enough drive with google maps. When it comes to price I really can’t compete with rental cars, but our van service is more convenient.
