Urge Taquito, best fish and shrimp tacos in Tulum

I have been visiting Urge Taquito for over 8 years now. Back then, they were mostly only known by the locals, but because of their amazing tacos and the internet, it has now become a popular spot even for tourists. If you google the term "urge taquito" you will find many different write ups about them.

The fact that they are now much more popular hasn't taken away from their unique flavors. They don't offer commissions to tour operators, so it is not the type of place that is over ran by tour groups.

What made them famous was their fish and shrimp tacos coated with a light batter. You then get to top off your tacos at their salsa bar. Their salsas are very unique, most of them are not spicy, but are full of flavor. They have different sauces to choose from, mango, coconut, tamarind, and some spicy ones made with habanero. They do have many other items on their menu, such as seafood tostadas, beef and chicken tacos, seafood cocktails, ceviches, etc.

One of my favorites is their Torito taco, which is a local non spicy pepper that is stuffed with cheese and fish, and is covered in their light batter. They also server fresh guacamole which is a favorite for many of my clients.

Their prices are accessible, even for the locals. A shrimp of fish taco will cost you 22 pesos, el torito is about 30 pesos. They do offer ice cold beers, bottled water, canned soda, and the classic mixed drinks like Margaritas, Pina coladas, etc.

The restaurant itself is a modest place located off of the main road that leads into the town of Tulum.
